When the pandemic brought travel to a standstill, renowned producer Daniel Lanois channeled his creativity into his home studio in Toronto’s Roncesvalles neighborhood. During this period, Lanois made what he calls “wide-eyed discoveries,” using sonic melodies, studio techniques, and the piano to explore musical landscapes from Cuba to Mexico, Jamaica to New Orleans.
The outcome of this creative endeavor is Player, Piano, an album featuring twelve instrumental tracks that Lanois describes as both “a little lullaby and a little wink in the eye,” and, in the words of Aaron Neville, “old folks’ and babies’ music.”
We challenge listeners to listen to “Eau” without shedding a tear; it is a truly moving piece of collage-art. To quote Lanois himself, it's a kind of "Emotional Phase Cancellation," as he mentioned in an interview.
