Hurry began as Matthew Scottoline singing alone in his dark apartment, accompanied by his cat. Previously a solo project, Scottoline (of Philadelphia's Everyone Everywhere) wrote and recorded everything himself, performing with a rotating cast of friends. Influenced by Guided By Voices, Teenage Fanclub, Weezer, and Dinosaur Jr., Hurry remained a solo endeavor until the debut album EverythingNothing. Scottoline then recruited cousins Rob and Joe Decarolis for the band's first official record.
